When to use:
Suspected spark plug damage
Engine misfires
Determining fuel efficiency
Engine misfires, broken spark plug wires, etc
Function:
Measures the period from the moment a spark is initiated up to the point when it is extinguished.
Measures the period between the ignition coil being energized and the spark being generated.
Measures from when the primary coil current first begins to increase to when it stops increasing.
Measures the voltage of the spark plug.
How to use:
Place sensor on the spark plug you want to measure. If the burn time is abnormally long or short burn, this may indicate some problem in the ignition module, spark plug, fuel mixture, cylinder compression, etc.
Dwell angles are specified for a particular engine and
RPM. If this reading is off from your engine’s spec, the dwell angle may need to be adjusted.
Use these measurements in combination with others to determine whether your engine is performing at optimal levels.
